This week, BOOM! Studios announced two all-newPower Rangers comic book series which will kick off the "Unlimited Power" era for the stories this Fall. The next era in the story of the comics will begin with the launch of Mighty Morphin #1 andPower Rangers#1.
InMighty Morphin, a new team of Power Rangers will be joined by the new Green Ranger who will be introduced in the final issue of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, issue #55, this October. When they clash with "an even deadlier Lord Zedd, who has a new mission and a new motivation," the rangers will learn a shocking secret from Zordon's past which may be an even bigger threat.
Both Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers will be written by Ryan Parrot (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
Ryan Parrot said the following on Mighty Morphin:
"This is a brand new beginning for an all-new Mighty Morphin team featuring characters you know – and an all new Green Ranger. This book is a chance to explore the past, present and future of the team in ways you've never seen before," said Parrott. "Coming out ofNecessaryEvil, there seemed like an opportunity to not only start fresh but focus the story in on our newMighty Morphin team like we haven't before."
Marco Renna will provide art forMighty Morphin. Renna also commented on his role:
"I'm really happy to have the opportunity to work on Power Rangers. I used to watch the TV show every day and being able to draw these characters is a dream come true," said Renna. "I feel honored to be part of this fantastic team and I am excited to go into this new adventure. I really hope you enjoy my art."
InPower Rangers, Jason, Trini, and Zack will face a cosmic threat as the Omega Rangers with a secret weapon: the evil Lord Drakkon. When Zordon forbids the Omega Rangers from contacting Lord Drakkon, they'll have to go rogue and face the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in order to save the day. Will Lord Drakkon help save the day, or does he have something else in mind?
Speaking onPower Rangers, Parrot hinted at what we can expect from the new series:
"We've spent several years building out the Power Rangers comic book universe and continuing the adventures of the Omega Rangers gives us a chance to fully explore it beyond the confines of the show. Not only can we add more heroes and villains but we can also bring in elements from future seasons viewed through the lens of familiar characters," said Parrott. "It's very exciting to explore new corners of the Power Rangers universe that fans have always imagined – and also never expected!"
Art forPower Rangers will be drawn by the acclaimed Francesco Mortarino (Firefly: The Sting). Mortarino expressed his excitement for what's to come in these new adventures:
"A year and a half ago, I helped illustrateMighty Morphin' Power Rangers #33, and now I'm drawing the first issue of the newPower Rangers series! I'm very proud to be a part of this new era with Ryan and BOOM! Studios," said Mortarino. "I know that many readers are waiting to see where the new team's adventures will take them. As a fan myself, I can't wait to show everyone exactly what I've been working on. It'll blow your minds!"
Both Mighty Morphin #1 and Power Rangers #1 will release in November 2020. Additionally, BOOM! Studios will hold a "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Future is Now" Panel on July 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm PT on the Comic-Con@Home website.
